TAMPERE, Finland - Brooke Jaworski finished seventh in the women’s 400 meter hurdles during the IAAF World U20 championship track meet Friday.

The incoming senior at Wausau West High School finished with a time of 58.43 seconds at Ratina Stadium in just her fifth time running the event and was the lone member of Team USA in the finals.

South Africa’s Zeney Van der Walt won the race in 55.34 and Jamacia’s Shiann Salmon was second in 56.11 Jaworski finished third in her qualifying heat in the semifinals Thursday to earn a spot in the finals. She finished in a personal-best time of 57.57. She finished first in her preliminary heat Wednesday in 58.42. It was the first international meet for Jaworski, who earned a spot on the Team USA with a second-place finish in the women’s 400-meter hurdles during the USA Junior Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Indiana, in June, with a time of 57.63.

She is coming off a junior season at Wausau West in which she finished 10th in the Division 1 girls field in the WIAA state cross country meet and first in the Division 1 girls 400 meters and 300 hurdles at the WIAA state track meet in June.

Her winning time of 41.40 in the 30 hurdles set a state record.
