Substitute Opportunities
Substitutes play a very vital role in the Wausau School District! They impact the lives of students by providing classroom instruction or support during the short-term or long-term absence of a school-based employee.
Licensed Teachers
If you are a licensed teacher and would like to substitute for us, please apply now! Applications are accepted on WECAN.
We will need a copy of your teaching license before you can begin substitute teaching, as only candidates with current/active Department of Public Instruction licenses will be considered.
Non-Licensed Teachers
If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher but are not a licensed educator, click HERE to learn more from the Department of Public Instruction:
After you complete the training, you then need to apply for a license with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. All substitutes must be licensed.

Student Teacher Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in the Wausau School District! Please work with your college or university regarding Student-Observation, Practicum-Student, and Student-Teacher opportunities at the Wausau School District. Your college/university will reach out to the District on your behalf.
The Wausau School District provides a learning environment for university students to satisfy their clinical placement requirements. We benefit from a partnership that contributes to their development in the field as well as the professional growth of our cooperating teachers.
We are intentional about building relationships with area universities that result in the development of teacher candidates who are a perfect fit for our District. We want to ensure that aspiring teachers and our potential future employees are receiving relevant and rigorous preparation in order to be successful in the classroom.
