Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand.

The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to student's health, well-being, and ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

Meals, foods, and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet their health and nutrition needs.

National School Lunch Program and Good Nutrition's Impact on Students

Nourishing the mind and body daily with healthy foods has a positive impact on a student's ability to learn.  We currently offer the School Breakfast Program in all schools.  Students eligible for reduced-price meals may have a free breakfast each day. The National School Lunch Program is offered to all students enrolled on a full-time basis. The Special Milk Program is offered to 4K students who attend Riverview Elementary school half days.  All other 4K sites receive a meal .  Several of our elementary, and both middle schools, offer the After School Snack Program free to students at area-eligible schools. Please contact your child's school for additional information.

During summer school, we offer the Summer Food Service Program at all schools that have summer school classes. This program provides FREE meals to ALL children.

Community Eligibility Provision

Seven elementary schools and one charter school have been approved for the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). The program allows students attending those schools to receive a free breakfast and free lunch each school day. CEP is a 4-year reimbursement program for schools participating in the National School Lunch and National School Breakfast programs that wish to offer free meals to all children in high-poverty schools without collecting free and reduced meal applications.

The approved CEP schools are:

  • Franklin Elementary
  • GD Jones Elementary
  • Grant Elementary
  • Hawthorn Hills Elementary
  • John Marshall Elementary
  • Lincoln Elementary
  • Thomas Jefferson Elementary
  • EEA Charter School

We take pride in all that we do and we thank you for allowing us to provide healthy meals for your children!
