The Wausau School District
is the first school district in Wisconsin to adopt the
Leader In Me® program!
What is Leader in Me?
Leader in Me is an evidence-based, comprehensive improvement model -- developed in partnership with educators -- that empowers individuals with the leadership skills they need to be life-ready.
Leader in Me is used by schools and school districts all around the world with the goal of inspiring greatness in every student. Our students, starting at age 5, will learn the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to manage their emotions, set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy, maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Habit 1: Be Proactive®
Focus and act on what you can control and influence instead of what you can’t.
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind®
Define clear measures of success and a plan to achieve them.
Habit 3: Put First Things First®
Prioritize and achieve your most important goals instead of constantly reacting to urgencies.
Habit 4: Think Win-Win®
Collaborate more effectively by building high-trust relationships.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood®
Influence others by developing a deep understanding of their needs and perspectives.
Habit 6: Synergize®
Develop innovative solutions that leverage differences and satisfy all key stakeholders.
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw®
Increase motivation, energy, and work/life balance by making time for renewing activities.
Why did we implement Leader in Me?
There's a need. Leaders in the business community say that students everywhere often lack soft skills as they enter the workforce; skills like interacting with people and managing work. Here in the Wausau School District, our mission is to 'advance student learning, achievement, and success.' Leader in Me does just that -- setting every one of our students up for success, not just as they attend our district, but well beyond high school.
